Server Shutdown and Forum Closing

After all these years, the server finally died. For the past year, it has been getting harder and harder to start the computer. The power went out last week and so did the server's motherboard.

Sad to say, but I will not be replacing it. System was stripped down and turned over to the recyclers. It has been a good run and all things must come to an end.

Now for the forum! Alot of you know that I haven't really been active in all this for about a year. Things change, people move on to other things. (alot have) As of Nov. 4th 2007, my account for the web host is up. I will not be renewing it.

Soooooo! Just leave the forum up...huh!! Well, there is a small problem with that. All the supporting files for the forum are on that host. When they wipe my account clean, a big chunk of the forum is useless. Best if we just let it go.

BUT! Help yourself to any files here and spread them around to anywhere you know!!

There are so many to thank for all this that I'm just going to say.....

"Thanks guys for all your help, you are and always will be the best"!

It truly has all been worth it, and in my wildest dreams, never thought it would go this far.

Aw man....... Was hoping to reach the 1000 post mark before the closer, but I suppose the forum has pretty much died, and will be even more useless now that your server has finally died for the last time..

It was a good run Skel. Didn't get to play you that much, but it was fun seeing you around the forum and what not.

Hope to see you guys around some other game or something, and to you Skel, Thanks for everything; for the forum, server, and your presence. It truly has been a good 2 years or so.

Sad to see this go! Though I knew it would eventually fade away the memories will still remain and the few servers hosting your mods, which I will for a while to come.

Two things:-

1. Did you ever have the "Longest" map modded to SDT specs? Because I remember playing it but I can't remember if it was a SDT mod or from another server?

2. Could you post a picture of yourself so we know the man behind the revolution :-)

Well I guess all great things must come to an end.

Although I only played you once in Halo I feel that you are highly respected and will remain respected. What you did for Halo completely changed this gaming communuty and i'm grateful for that.

Skelito even though the support files go away our great profiles and memories of how many posts we made, when we got in trouble, when certain things happend. Good creations from certain members, I.E. Hoods great picture of all the master chief characters on bloodgulch.. I really hope we find a way to keep the forum for a while so other people can find a way to remember it with us.

How much longer is the forum gonna be postable.?

I've seen this coming for a while... I suppose it was just a matter of time. Even though I'm always prepared for these things, it doesn't make them easier. I've had some great memories that stemmed here, and I'll hate to see it go. I hope these forums can stay up for a while longer, if not just so everybody can have a chance to read this thread. I think we should find a way to immortalize these profiles and threads if at all possible, though. Perhaps disable registration (which appears to already have happened) and make all boards read-only?

Anyways, since this very well may be my last post here, I'd just like to say it's been a great run, and thanks to everybody that contributed to the experience.

I think you should do the same as nc]. Just put it into lock down but so everyone can still see the work of a revolution.
I would be the least you could do for us. There are many things I would love to look back on even if parts are missing.

(This is a little long, but please read it as it is a very interesting read!!)

Firstly....... There is one thing I would like to thank Skelito for, that is the thing that made the mods, the server and this forum (and indirectly, the nc] clan) possible. I want to thank Skel for breaking his elbow really badly, and making him so bored that he decided to take up Halo map modding as a hobby. Man, I bet you never thought things would go this far and for so long when you tinkered with your first map.... Skel, you have provided me with around 3 1/2 - 4 years of distraction from real life, and respite from the pressure and stress that comes with my job. Since I have been associated with you and the creations you gave us, I have changed dramatically as a person. In dealing with all of the interesting situations here in the forum, I have learned so much about patience, diplomacy and controlling my own very bad temper. (Yes, I have a ferocious temper.....believe it or not.) I have learned to be a calmer person, by having to confront the little misfits that have endeavored to make life here hell. Out of all this, on a personal side, I have seriously improved the way I deal with my own kids, by using the same patience and diplomacy skills that I have learned here.

To the server ninjas and Forum staff,

I thank you for being such stand up guys. Not only helping run possibly the best run server I have ever seen, but being a great support for this forum.

I became the 2nd Admin of this forum only a week or two after its birth. There was a lot happening early on, and I worked away silently in the background, with no-one even knowing I was doing anything other than being a normal forum member. Because of certain issues early on, we decided it was not a good idea to reveal my part in this forum, until it was truly time to do so. I was never in this position for the power, only being interested in keeping the place running smoothly.

For a while there (about 6 months or so), I was running this forum totally alone, as Skel was out working in the real world, traveling around doing his thing, and was unable to be here to do his part. I was working around the clock, spending 6-10 hours a day keeping the forum under control........Yes, I was doing it alone for a long time, and most of you thought Skel was still doing everything, when in fact it was me!! Later it was revealed to the forum, that I was the second Admin and most of the members here were pretty surprised.

Around this time Skel and I picked Griffin and Cutter to be moderators and later Admins to give me a helping hand. Duke and Old Fart also came in as Global moderators, and things became a lot less stressful for me. I had Vortex in my ear (and as a forum moderator), at all times helping me make moral judgments and decisions, I really thank him for his total support and assistance. Without all of you guys, this forum would have been a heck of a lot busier to maintain, and I feel I would have gone crazy and lost the plot with all the garbage I was dealing with at the time.


Ok, there has been a lot of speculation as to who were server ninjas, and some were identified through clever trickery. I'm not sure if anyone actually identified all of the server ninjas, but I know Griffin was outed quite early in the server history. Skels server has (to my knowlege) never had a single leak of the rcon password leading to bad times. The password was changed I think twice in its life, but only because the password was accidentally typed in a mad rush to ban someone.

So to put to rest the whole "who has rcon" question, here is the list of server ninjas in order of when the RCON was handed out:

One last reveal from me....to all who have asked me about this, YES there is a Staff only lounge here, where us forum staff discussed absolutely everything, before any actions were carried out. All banning, and forum issues were discussed and all staff knew everything that was going on. We kept in touch daily.
There was a time or two where accusations were made to me about me abusing my Admin power. The dead-set truth is that I never acted without discussing my intended actions with Skel and/or the staff.

Because I am/was 2nd in charge, I had full authority to do what I had to, to keep the forum running smoothly. I never did anything without at least Skel knowing what I was doing.....There it is out, there was no evil doing or power abuse ever on my part.


To everyone else here that have been part of the SDTM, you guys have been a great bunch to be friends with. I know I have had a few issues with some people, and have had to put my foot down (HARD), but I feel that through this experience, most of you have also changed in ways you never thought you all would.

Some of you have gone from little pains in the ass to very big and useful contributors to this forum. Take Hood for example......He and I never saw eye to eye right from the get-go. But over the years we have not only learned how to tolerate each other, but now have a mutual respect for each other.

In the end, most of us ended up actually enjoying each others company....


In closing Skelito, I offer my sincere thanks for the trust you placed in me to do what I have done here and in the server. With your mods and server, and this forum, you (with a little help) have provided a family friendly and totally awesome social outlet for so many people. Heck I even made a really good real life mate out of being here....Vortex.

Slng I never doubted that you had atleast some moral backing, and that you never went too far, I probaly would have went farther. (i.e Razr, he wouldnt have gotten back after what the 2nd time? theres others of course)

Since I was not here at the very beginning, and I didnt find the forum until almost a year after I had first played the mod, I do not know the full extent of your hardships Slng.
But I do know this, you went through hell for us, and you desearve everyone's complete and utter respect.

And so does the rest of the staff. They could have jumped ship, heck they could have gotten rid of some of us at any time. But they decided to put up with us, and thus they have my respect.

And the "senior" members here, who were here from close to the beginning, or have more experience at the mod than me (highly doubtful ) do desearve and have gotten my complete respect.

Alas, it was a great run, but as everyone has said, all good things must come to an end. But I hope you will make this forum read only, and presearve the memory of this great legacy. (and empire lol) I will download and upload all the mod files to a hosting site if you need me too, as well.
