Okay! This one was taken using the flycam at 1280x960. I used Halo's internal screenshot system. The file came out almost 5 megs, png format. Then it needed to be converted into .jpg and it really lost it's clarity. It went from 5 megs to 225k! I sort of was facing the wrong way and thought you would get a laugh! Take a peekAnyways! There is no way to get the clarity with only a 1280x1024 system. When Hood looks at the picture with his 1680x1050 monitor, it will look distorted. Bottom line here. If you can make your screenies look good at 800x600, your batting a 1000!

was hard to see in that top pic, but I think I see it in the bottom one. MC is now somewhat shinier, and has tan stripes on his head, forearm, leg and toes? I guess that does add more style to the armor, somewhat like Halo 2 does.
Since Skelito mentioned it, here's a question for those of you with high-end graphics cards: At what resolution do you normally play the game? I rocked in Skel's new Infinity-plasma-war yesterday, at 1680x1050 with everything set to highes, including 2x oversampling (I can go as high as 16x). But most of the screenshots I've seen are smaller (1024x768) and don't have ANY antialiasing/oversampling...

Hood thats kinda offtopic but.(sorry. didnt see this was your topic, i thought this was the first page :S). i play halo like this Resolution 1280 x 1024 - 75Hz (EDIT: sorry thats 1152 X 864. I forgot that i tired doing this before but when i use a bigger resolution it disables all my cards custom settings!) All in game settings set to high I also change my ATI card settings to have anti- aliasing set to X4 and texture filtering/sampling set to X8 (any higher screws up the text for some reason). although when i take screen shots (which i havnt done in ages) i tend to decrease the size and quality of the pic before i post so it isnt to big and dosnt have such a big file size. anywho. nice pic skel! even though it was degraded in quality! EDIT: ok i got some pics but i didnt bother compressing them so they are like 2.8MB each. anywho links below. I thought id get a comparison to skels with this. lol www.freewebtown.com/MHCLAN/0screenshot00.pngI like this one not only does it look cool but you can see lots of shiny bits on the two ships. www.freewebtown.com/MHCLAN/1screenshot00.pngSorry if they look a little dark to some people but i have quite a bright monitor with quite a lot of contrast so it looks fine to me. So what do you think? pretty good for a 128MB card eh ANOTHER EDIT: oh yeah. dont worry about them being so big. look at my bandwidth usage over the last 24 days Thes files shouldnt really even make a dent in that.

Here is a few I just took at 1280x1024 JPG versions (260-390kb) The same Images in PNG format (1.44mb average) I posted links to the images, because the images would take a long time to load otherwise! Blue MCRed MC

What type of graphics card you got? you need some texture sampling so the detail textures dont fade out over distance. Still i see you have a nice shiny BG base there!

Firstly this is my Graphics card : Geforce 6600GT, AGP8x, 256MB GDDR3, Dual DVI, TV OUT
I did have the anisotropic filtering set to Application Controlled......I thought this to be the best setting to use.
I have now set it to manuel, and have beefed it up 10 16x, and there is to much detail, and it makes the game difficult.....(I don't need to see every pock mark, and pothole in the game).
I reduced it to 8x and it is sweet as......Thanks for the tip....

Ok here's the comparison. I grabbed all of your samples (the PNG's if you had them), pasted them into photoshop at 100% size, found a comparable pic of mine, and placed them side-by-side. I then saved then as a single image as a high-quality jpeg. The high quality should prevent any jpeg blurring, but if it were there it'd apply to both our samples. I did crop the images since all we needed to see was MC. I'm either seeing very little or no anti-aliasing in your screenshots. Each MC has some edges to him that are sharp and jagged, where you can see pixel edges. Also, you keep telling me how shiny your new MC is, but he looks about as shiny as mine, just without the battle 'dirt' and kinda blurry. I used links so that the images aren't skewed onscreen, and because they're big. Mine with Skelito's: (notice how skel's MC has very rough edges. also mine seems to look shinier) i28.photobucket.com/albums/c224/hoodkauai/Skelito/vsskel.jpgMine with Sling's first: (same thing, look under shooting arm, rough edges. This one kinda looks more shiny, but also looks way more blurry) i28.photobucket.com/albums/c224/hoodkauai/Skelito/vssling1.jpgMine with Sling's second: (same, very rough edges, very blurry skin) i28.photobucket.com/albums/c224/hoodkauai/Skelito/vssling2.jpgMine with Innova's: (check the edges of the 'kickstand' arm of Innova's rifle... jagged edges. My MC's metal armor looks as shiny as his. This is the best of the samples you guys showed me) i28.photobucket.com/albums/c224/hoodkauai/Skelito/vsinnovaB.jpgI wanna see a closeup sample from Templar and Aero, since they've got the highest end machines here. After taking such a bashing for being a mac owner, I was kind of expecting more from the PC's out there.

Shiny has to do with a bitmap file within Halo. This file tells how shiny to make things when the light hits it. (only with shader 1.1 and above) What you see on your MC is all you get. Sort of like 2 cars, 1 with wax and 1 without.
However! The skins show a much shinier MC because the multipurpose file is tweaked. Different parts are highlighted for reflection where as default it is not. Just compare for yourself and you will see.
All the goodies are turned off because it raises my ping a hair. For me thats bad. Remember, there is only so much eye candy to be seen and it's sweet!

I turned my AA up to 6x thinking it would be a nice handicap to work with. And I wasn't playing as well as normal, things seemed a bit slower in general. After I quit I realized I had a torrent downloading in the background, as well as Photoshop with a few large open images. HAhahaha... oh well so much for my handicap. I am SO loving this graphics card.

Hood, Firstly, the link you described as "Mine with Skelito's" has a link to my second pic...its the same!!! Better fix the link mate! You gotta admit it, my computer is a 3 year old dinosaur compared to yours...Yet it still competes very well with your very new Mac..... It's not about how much $$ you spend, or how good a computer technician you are....its how you tune your beast... I have taken 3 years to tweak my baby, and I tell you, it still matches it with the big boys.....I'm quite surprised at the quality of my pics compared to the ones Hood comp pumps out..... So I'm willing to back down a peg or two and go out on a limb and say that Mac's are no better or worse than a well tuned PC...... Sure there are things that a Mac does that a PC can't....but PC's have the awesome ability to easily be upgraded and modified to suit ones needs.... I thing basically we should call it a draw.......if you excuse the pun!

Yay And my card isnt anywhere near top of the range. guess what. I decided to see if i could update my graphics card driver and i got a new version of the program that came with it which has more options for enhancing graphics! look (only jpg this time) www.freewebtown.com/MHCLAN/0screenshot00.jpgwww.freewebtown.com/MHCLAN/1screenshot00.jpgwww.freewebtown.com/MHCLAN/2screenshot00.jpgEdges are still pretty rough but my card isnt that good. (for some reason they dont look as rough when im playing. And this only slows down my game by a few frames per second. Also. skel. ive noticed that with this halo 2 skin that the detail map that shows the armours corrosion and scratches and stuff dosnt show up as much . i know its supposed to be nice shiny armour but that corrosion effect looked cool on the origanal. Ill try and get some pics without the skins soon. EDIT: origanal skins in campaign. www.freewebtown.com/MHCLAN/image1.jpgwww.freewebtown.com/MHCLAN/image2.jpgwww.freewebtown.com/MHCLAN/image3.jpgANOTHER EDIT: these settings work in lan games and on campaign but the make me lag online so ive had to revert to the old ones YET ANOTHER EDIT: My graphics card is strange, look at how amazing counter strike looks on my computer. How the hell can it look smoother than halo when it needs so much more power from the card to run. www.freewebtown.com/MHCLAN/hl2_1_0001.jpgYes i know the pics a bit blurry but thats because i took a screen shot of a video but you can still see how smooth the models are.

I'll be damned if life doesn't just get sweeter and sweeter with this Mac system of mine. Not only do I still hold the title for the forum member with the highest resolution gaming system, but according to this article, it might not be long before almost all new PC games will run natively on Macs. Somebody came out with a development tool that will allow developers to add a simple patch to any game and allow it to run on Macs. What's even better, is that we would be able to play windows games without having to have Windows installed (along with all of it's vunerabilitites). Who knows if it'll happen, or how widely accepted it will be. Supposedly it's ultra-easy, and will also allow Linux users to play Windows games, but we'll see when it comes out.

I believe that can already be done, linux is a programmers OS really. almost everyone who uses it knows some sort of programming and i believe there are lots of tools to run windows stuff.
Although the Mac bit sounds good. all the more reason to get a mac!
