Pretty much everybody knows how to hogapult, but about a month ago I started teaching people how to control the speed of their hogapult, and the benefits it can bring.
Most hogapults are done shooting at the ground, or at an object in front of you. However, almost all of these result in you flying off spinning so fast that you are almost always flung from the vehicle.
Now I can't explain why that happens when you shoot at a base wall, but when you shoot at the ground the ANGLE at which the blast hits your hog is pretty steep (ground level 10 feet in front of you hog rising up 3 feet to the center of your hog's front grill). Follow along with me, this makes sense...
I found that if the ANGLE at which the blast hits your hog is LESS STEEP, it doesn't cause you to spin so fast. To produce this, drive up onto SLOPED GROUND that faces FLAT GROUND. In the photo below you can see my hog sitting on the downward slope of the hill facing ground that angles up from my perspective. Simply put: I'm on a slope, facing down at terrain that is either flat or angled up.
When you're in such a position, fire as FAR AWAY from yourself as possible. Splash damage is MUCH more touchy at these angles. Start off shooting 15 feet from you, then 14, then 13... etc. You'll see no effect at all until you hit that perfect spot, and WHOOSH, away you fly, rotating VERY slowly and almost always remaining in the vehicle (as well as any passengers).
This has good and bad features to it. First the bad: you're now a much bigger flying target. Now the good: You always survive the trip, you almost always land in their back yard, and some of the enemy will see the hog but won't realize you're still inside it. In most cases they never even see the hog cuz they're all at 8x zoom looking at your teammates.
I've landed ON their base, right side up, and had their team running right past me not thinking to look in the back seat of the hog. It's a GREAT way to get in their back yard without them seeing, and about 50% of the time nobody pays me any attention.
There are lots of spots on BG where you can do this:
- Blue base front yard, on blue's side of that small hill next to the tree.
- Either side of center hill, angled toward ground.
- Blue's back yard, hill behind base.
- Red's front yard, on the hill in front of the tree
- Anywhere along the road's edge
For maximum fun, have a full crew in the hog. If you don't get shot, your whole team will be in their backyard instantly.
Final word of warning: DONT SHOOT THE GROUND CLOSE TO YOURSELF. In regular hogapults, you must shoot as close to yourself as you can just to fly. Doing that here will only get you killed. Shoot farther away than you think necessary, and slowly shoot closer until you hit that 'sweet spot'.
You can see me pulting slowly in the tutorial, right where the music begins, and I've been able to pult so slowly that the whole trip takes but a single rotation of the hog. Very sweet.
Enjoy!
