About Modding the mod!*

First things first! I don't have a problem with anyone making changes to the mods. These are your maps and can do whatever you want to them. But here's the problem, the server name.

Those who come into a Snipers Dream Team servers, have a specific map to play. If things get changed, stuff like portals and other stuff start acting weird. If you mod something that doesn't quite work out, new players might have a bad experience. Uhm, like spawn killing portals.

So, it is only fair to those that have downloaded these mods, to indicate in the server name thats its modified. Maybe some of the member can give suggestion on this.

Modified Snipers Dream Team {name}

Just remember, I only give "Server Host" status to those who support the original mods. Only hosts that are running the original maps should use the Snipers Dream Team name! Modding these maps means you should host your own creations, and is only fair to the players.

so...skelito would i count as someone who modified bloodgulch a hair more?
(add tank shells to pistols) even though i did what you did with all the other mods to make them available to people who dont have it.

Even having only modded the pistols, you have altered the Original Mods, therefore changing the expected game play!

aww that sucks well not to brag but the pistol with tank shells got popular in my server for bloodgulch but only that map i modded a hair more.

Well what you could do is like make the name "Slightly modified Snipers Dream Team modv7.1 {§Venom§} (or whatever it is) so they can choose servers accordingly.

well, for one, you need to have it start with : Snipers Dream Mod- then you can add things, like, "modified" , and such, otherwise, they wont show up in the snipers dream mod section, where all the other servers show up

that is, if you use the alphabetical way of sorting the servers, i know some people use direct ip's

Okay, here is the problem I'm having with modding the mods. People come here and download the maps. They go into a SDT server and things get screwed up because of portals and other changes.

The name Snipers Dream Team is suppose to represent the mods that are in the download section of this forum. Server Hosts like Bestyanks and Bordr knew this. They did make custom gametypes to their liking, which was AWESOME! It gave players different options on the same mod.

Hey, by all means mod away! Just indicate in your server name that your maps are different then what players have downloaded here.

Modded SDT Mods {yourname} would be a good example. Then come here and advertise and even put the mod up for download.

awww well i guess i will change my damnnation map back lol, i will then take the time to mod the maps i wish to and make a second dedicated MODED snipers dream team mod server

this would make more sense to me, so i will do that

i would like to have a server host tag or somethin lol

got my second server up and running, only have 1 remoded map damnation, and all i did was add a few teles to it to get to the top of map.

if any of you have remoded any other maps plz let me know what u did with it, i would like to host it for you on my server if you would like me to, so u can host the normal one so u can get the server host tag as well

my opinion of what the name should be for modified skel's maps should be "Snipers Dream Team Mod-Remoded {Host name}" just my choice, but my reasonnig is that it will keep them grouped together well and will also seperate them from the other regular ones if they all are spelld the same

You are right there skelito..

If these guys host their own version of your modded maps, they are no longer STDM mod maps....

I agree with your choice of names for these modded maps, and I feel that once these servers are up and running they too will get heaps of attention with the title

ya ill have to also agree now since i dont want to change my server name or anything like that...sooo ill just use skelitos original mod instead of my own..

yea i already made that descision also. i also wanted to make a second server for modded maps. the only problem: dont they run off the same maps???

no what u do is

go to he "halo server" folder copy it and make a second one

then change the init file so that the server name isntthe same, then go to the second halo server folder u just made, make a shortcut to the desktop of the run program file, go in and add this to the end of it..

target:
C:\................."halo server2" -port XXXX -port XXXX

now in the XXXX spot u put different ports than what u have on the other one. so that the ip address is different if u know what i mean, now ur second server is ready to go!! YAY, i have to wait to have my second server running til i build my new desktop here in a month or 2

pm me if u have any questions about how to setup the second server, cuz i have done it, dunno if anyone else has yet but if they did Good job cuz it took some thinking to get it done

Yea I noticed you changed back to the original mod when I got pwned trying to blow them up with a pistol.

ya im going to miss my tank shell pistols but i could always let people download the map and let them have fun with it...against their freinds.
