I think it should just be 16 because myself...I was a great 16 year old driver...the cops pulled me over once because he was "checking my plates to see if my BMW was not stolen because my lisence plates said it was a PT Cruiser" but anyways...yeah 16 is good enough

(OMFG SUBLIMINAL MESSAGE ROFLMUFFIN) IMO it should be by state, I doubt nebraska has a higher rate of teens crashing than teen crashing in New York. In major cities is should be a high age, in places with not alot of activity 16 is fine.

Personally I like the full license limit just how it is (17). I heavily believe that girls and puny guys should NOT drive fullsize SUV's, just asking for major trouble. I've personally seen wrecks where the drivers just couldn't hold onto the wheel or couldn't turn it. Maturity in body and mind is required for driving on roads these days. If you wanna race, don't be a numbskull and do it on roads- take it to the track. Ya wanna be stupid in a car? It would be much easier to play chicken on the RR tracks and only you get hurt. Now, I have wrecked my truck before (actually, didn't do any damage to me just stuck a hole in the bumper of the guy behind me) and was at fault fully because I backed into them. Sometimes you just can't avoid a crackup...especially in a 22' long Suburban that you can't see so well behind  But other times a wreck is usually stupidity-related. Yes, I'm 18 and I do stupid stuff. Who doesn't occasionally? I know teenagers and octagenarians who both go wayyy too fast sometimes, myself included. But you never really appreciate what could happen until you see a highspeed wreck occur head on between 2 cars going opposite directions doing 50 in a 35/45 change. But no, making people wait longer to drive legally isn't going to help much at all. If anything, they'll likely do stupider stuff because they're so impatient.

my #2cents# this is coming from a truckers point of view. i personally think that everyone when they get their drivers license should be forced to take one job driving an 18 wheeler. cause of the simple fact that they are a good thing to learn on when i first got my drivers license my step dad took me out and taught me how to drive in a 1992 freightliner with almost 2 million miles on it. the simple fact is that some people do not belong on the road some truckers are included in this statement. well as i said this is just my #2cents#

Ey man I live in Kentucky, and in the part of the state that I live in, the age to get your liscense (not permit) is 18. They just recently raised it. You have to have like 6 months of driving in the day, and like 1 year and a half of night driving (both while driving with an adult). So this really doesnt concern me, because its already happened! Its sucks, because now I gotta wait for 4 more freaking years 'til I can get my license.....

ok up here where i live without taking drivers ed you have to wait untill 18 anyway, and if you take drivers ed you have to wait untill at least 16 and a half, so, either way it doesnt matter to me lol.
