I'm constantly accused of being able to shoot through walls. I take great pride in this ability, not only because it shows some skill on my end but primarily because it's just so completely frustrating to my enemies.
Although I know posting this strategy for the newer ones will cost us many kills (and lives) in the future, I figured it's only fair that the newbies get a proper education in physics, on the off chance that they're ever on our team.
Physics 101 - Apples fall down, and tab A goes in slot B (bren is here).
Physics 102 - Sniper tank shells create splash damage.
- Splash damage spreads from the point of impact spherically outwards, tapering off to nothing in about 20 feet.
- Solid map objects block splash damage, but only for areas directly opposite the point of impact.
- Physics doesn't act the way you'd expect, otherwise you wouldn't need a degree to understand it.
Note the following base full of suckers:
Please take notice of the areas highlighted in green. These areas are commonly seen as places to shoot if you want to cause damage to enemies standing on top of the base or in front of it.
However, re-read point 4 at top. That's right, you don't know jack about physics, now we can begin.
First off, note the green on the Tree. Hitting the tree there will kill anyone within 15 feet of the tree, whether in front or behind. Just because the point of impact is on YOUR side of the tree, and just because your enemy is behind the tree, doesn't save his life in the least. Trees and some rocks aren't as solid as you'd hope they were.
Next, note the two green-lit base roof pillars on the far right. As you might guess by now, hitting THAT portion of the pillar instead of the larger portion rotates the blast radius a full 90 degrees, causing instant death for anyone standing near the back door. Here's a tip, though: splash damage angles somewhat around an object. Hence, someone standing just to the LEFT (your left) of their back door (while presumably unable to see the exact point of impact) will still be hit by this blast. So will someone standing a few feet inside their back door. Killing someone inside their back door using splash damage will almost assuredly cause them to insist you can shoot through walls. Please do what I do, revel in their ignorance and savor the moment.
Note now the angled green line bottom-left. Note also that the line isn't highlighting the top of the closer hill, but your side of the further hill. Hitting here will likely kill anyone standing around where the nades are on the ground.
Note the topmost two highlighted roof pillars. Perfect places for killing people standing close to the other side of their base, or on their far base ramp.
The highlighted door is obvious, and the two highlights on the roof allow you to kill people at the out-of-sight spawn locations.
Finally, note the highlighted hole in the roof. Shooting the inner wall of this hole allows you to kill people inside their base. Varying the angle at which you shoot, as well as adjusting your fire to the far right or far left of the roof hole allow you to cover almost the entire inner room of their base.
While I focused primarly on red base, the exact same shot areas are true for the blue base. Further, these exact same principles apply to all objects and areas on the map. Basically, for protection, stay greater than 90 degrees behind any object's flat surface for protection. This is what makes hills so perfect for cover. If they hit any portion angled away from you, it's more than 90 degrees and you're safe. Only if they hit the very top of the hill while you have your head up are you in danger. Because of this, when firing at someone behind a hill, look for a nearby portion of the hill that is angled further back towards your enemy, and shoot as close to him on this portion as you can when he shows himself.
Also, should any enemy hide behind a solid object, look for nearby objects that can reflect your splash damage. Shoot at the wall behind him, find a patch of ground nearby, or hit a vehicle if it's close enough. If I can't reach someone, I have much fun knocking a vehicle over near them, then shoot the vehicle and watch physics take its course.
I'm not sure how much this will help some newer ones, and Griff and a few of the older ones know it by heart, but here's to hoping somebody can make something outta this lesson.
Oh, don't forget Physics 608 - Hood owns ur ass.
